Magadh University

The University of Magadh takes its name from the ancient Indian state of MAGADH. The state of Magadha was present in the same geographical area where modern day Jharkhand and Bihar are located. In fact, the name of the state Bihar is derived from the word “Vihara” which is derived from the Viharas (abode for ascetics and monks) of Magadha.
Magadha is rich in stories from many great scholars around the world who came here in search of spirituality and knowledge. It is the land of Lord Buddha, Shakya prince (Gautama Siddhartha), who renounced worldly pleasures to become a monk in search of peace, truth and salvation. The Buddha roamed the jungles of Magadha until he attained enlightenment under the Peepal tree, now known as Bodh Gaya. The Buddha gave his famous fire sermon here on Brahmayoni Hill to a thousand ascetics who were known as Gyashish in his time, thus Bodh Gaya is known as the birthplace of Buddhism. Jainism as a religion also expanded from here. According to Jain scriptures, twenty tirthankaras attained nirvana in the hills of Parasnath.
Bodhgaya is in Gaya district of Bihar and is just 16 km from Gaya city. Gaya is a sacred place for Hindus. Thousands of Hindu pilgrims from all over the world come to Gaya every year to pray for Pind Daan (the last offering to their ancestors) and their salvation.
In later centuries the place continued to attract spiritual energies and eventually, Islam went with Hazrat Ata Hussain Fani, a Sufi saint of the Chishti order. He is believed to have traveled to Mecca at a very young age, and was spiritually mentored in Gaya by Prophet Muhammad to spread the messages of Islam. He was also a poet and a great orator, later recognized as Hazrat Ata Hussain “Gayawi”.
The region stands on the pillars of the four major religions of the world, Hinduism, Jainism, Buddhism and Islam and Bodhgaya is a mosaic of various cultures from all over the world. Bodhgaya is home to many Tibetan exiles, including Chinese with peaceful co-existence with local people and people of other nationalities; Thus giving this city a beautiful example of multi-nation, multi-culture, multi-lingual and multi-religious people peacefully co-exist without any conflict, creating a rich treasure of historical embodiment of peace, love, compassion and brotherhood Get.
